Top 5 tips for making a vision board that inspires and becomes reality

Have you ever created a vision board? Do you think they sound like a waste of time or do you wonder if they really work? I’m here to tell you, a vision board is an AMAZING tool to helping you accomplish your goals and dreams.

What is a vision board? It’s your annual goals in visual form. It can be digital or physical, but it should be something that you can access and look at every single day.

My first ever vision board was created in January or 2020. Little did I know of what a crazy, scary, unpredictable ride the year 2020 would bring. For me, 2020 not only brought pandemic forced closures and health and business uncertainty, but it also brought a surprise, late in life pregnancy and new adventures as a homeschool mom! I absolutely CREDIT my vision board for helping me push through. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I can’t just credit a board, I believe God wrote it on my heart and inspired my soul to take something that was first spiritual (ie, in my mind and heart) and have the faith to bring it into the physical world. The first step was seeing what it could look like then believing it would come to be. Not just thinking maybe it will, but truly believing it will and that is where visualization comes in and why it’s so incredibly powerful.

Goal setting and creating a vision board.

If you would like to see my first vision board and how it turned out, you can check out an instagram reel I made showing the board and how it came to life.
I’m about to create my 3rd board for the year 2022 and I want to encourage you to try one for yourself! It does not have to be business related, in fact, having a couple of different categories or aspects of your life you want to improve on your board is encouraged!

Tip #1 Focus on 1-4 aspects of your life you want to work on

Examples would include: Business, personal, physical and spiritual. Or maybe yours is Family, Personal, and Business. Whatever is important to you. Now that you have the aspects you want to set goals for, it’s time to search the internet.

Tip #2 Find images, quotes, numbers that make you feel happy and don’t care if they seem unrealistic

I can’t emphasize the emotion of the images enough. Create a folder on your computer that is filled with images that evoke a happy, inspired, and/or determined emotion. They don’t have to feel realistic, but you should have some sort of plan in your mind on how you’re going to achieve that. For example, I put a graphic that said “$300k” on my first vision board. That seemed crazy at the time and I knew I would have to get really creative in order to hit that goal. I knew it was unlikely, but heck, I was going to put it on there and see what happens anyway. Did I hit $300k my first year? Nope, but did I make more money than I had ever made in a single year prior to that? Hell yes I did and I took that as a big win! There were other things on my board that 100% came to be and they also felt unrealistic when I put them on there. They were nothing more than a hope for something similar. Watch that reel I linked above and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Dare to dream.

What am I adding this year that feels unrealistic but I’m going for it? One is for my “personal” section. I had a baby at age 37 (I’m now almost 39!) and the bouncing back has been kinda rough. So I’m going to add a picture of a body I want mine to look like and glue a picture of my head on that body. At age 39 I’m not expecting perfection by any means, but I do want a strong, healthy body that will bring me longevity for years to come!

Tip #3 Decide how and where you will display your images

Some people like to make a digital collage. A great app or website to do that in is called canva. I create all of my graphics and a lot of mood boards in that software. There is a free version or you can sign up for a professional one. You can keep the board on your phone and computer or print it out. I personally like a huge, physical board I can display in my office. There are a few reasons for this, one big one is that I can physically see and touch it and I think that has an elevated power in helping these goals and aspirations go from my head to manifesting in real life.

I used a 24x36 dry erase board and printed all of my images, quotes, and even a few numbers and graphics I typed up myself. I cut each thing out and began to lay them out on my board in a way that made sense to me. I could see each image and graphic clearly, every piece that goes on there has a purpose. I liked using the dry erase board because I taped my printed images onto it but I also could write little notes and even use magnets to add more to the board as time went on. Now It’s time to use the board.

Tip #4 Take 5 minutes to look at your board every day

This is important. Don’t just glance at your images. Don’t put your board somewhere where you won’t see it every day. You have to look at it and visualize yourself in it. Take a moment and allow yourself to FEEL what it will feel like when you accomplish your goal. What will it feel like when you’re the one playing on the beach with your family instead of the person in your inspiration image? What does it feel like when you’ve hit that financial goal? This exercise prompts your mind to start taking actions to get you there. You need to visualize it like it’s already happened, like you’re already there. Your subconscious mind will believe you and start helping you focus on getting there. I know it sounds crazy. I know. Trust me. But it is absolutely true. You just have to do it. This brings me to my last tip, which happens to be the most important.

Tip #5 Be grateful, take actionable steps towards your goals every day, push through the suck

Life has a way of punching you in the gut sometimes. It’s true. I found myself literally PUKING my guts out multiple days a week, for months while we were renovating this studio space because I was surprisingly pregnant AND statewide pandemic closures meant we could not open for business as planned, with no idea of when that would change. Talk about gut punch. But what truly separates those who see their goals come to fruition and those who don’t are the ones that keep pushing forward. Looking at your board and remembering your “why” every day helps pushing through so much. Feel gratitude. Don’t dwell or waste energy in and on the things you cannot control. Easier said than done? Sure! One way I keep myself in gratitude is I start and end my day with this journal. Life changing.

living the dream of owning your own business

Well there you have it friends. I have personally witness the amazing power of manifesting my dreams with tools such as a vision board and gratitude journaling. It was not easy by any stretch of the imagination. I had to pray and pray and pray. But today, 1.5 years after completing my first board that primarily focused on building this studio, I am living almost every aspect of what was only a dream once upon a time.
